More companies deploying optical networks
10/04/2011
A growing number of telecom carriers are turning to optical technology and striving to deploy fiber optic cabling solutions to support advanced network protocols. The move comes as many service providers are seeking new ways to generate revenues, according to a recent Light Reading report.
The news source explained the trend toward optical network deployment is being accompanied by increased investments in fiber to the home technologies. The report said these trends emerged during this year's FTTH Council Conference.
During last year's conference, the focus was on how to spend stimulus money. Now that those funds are used up, the report said carriers are focusing on deploying optical networks to support businesses to create new revenue opportunities.
A growing number of carriers are also focusing on fiber as a technology to enable more advanced mobile backhaul networks, according to the news source.
This move to optical deployment is being supported by increased deployments of denser network equipment, the report said.
Networking changes are becoming prominent as more businesses strive to improve performance. In the industrial Ethernet sector, many organizations are facing challenges because a diverse range of protocols are used to support varied Ethernet deployments, according to a recent Automation World report.
