WAN management key for application delivery
08/23/2011
Companies are increasingly centralizing their IT resources into larger data centers and transporting applications through the WAN to end users in a wide range of locations.
According to a recent Tech Target report, employees do not care about where the application is coming from, performance is all that matters to them. When the WAN gets bogged down trying to transport applications, it can frustrate end users and reduce operational efficiency.
The report explained that some applications are impacted excessively by being transmitted over a large geographic distance, while others may be configured in a manner that makes them consume more bandwidth than most programs.
As a result, many businesses need to deploy application delivery optimization networking tools to support the WAN. Typically, the best ways to accomplish this are through WAN optimization or application delivery control, the report said, both of which help manage routing through the network and improve performance for the end user.
WAN optimization can also help resolve network latency issues. A recent ReadWriteWeb report explained WAN latency is difficult to overcome by simply adding more bandwidth, and is better resolved through optimization and other similar solutions.
