WAN virtualization can improve network performance, report says
04/27/2011
Data center consolidation, virtualization, cloud computing, growing amounts of video traffic and other changes on the internet's workload in enterprise settings is leading to a growing trend toward WAN virtualization.
A recent Network World report explains WAN virtualization can be used to improve the price-to-performance ratio of a WAN by adding network equipment to improve routing and connectivity.
Industry expert Keith Morris told the news source WAN virtualization is able to improve WAN performance for businesses of many types. Morris explains any business with five or more branch offices will see major improvements in internet performance by deploying a WAN optimization solution.
Businesses with a larger footprint can also make use of WAN virtualization solutions to improve performance, industry expert Thierry Grenot told Network World. Grenot said WAN virtualization is able to essentially turn the business' internet connection into a company network to improve routing and performance.
WAN optimization is also emerging as an important technology in the WAN performance sector. Another Network World report said software-based WAN optimization is being deployed by many companies to connect virtual machines and improve performance within the hardware.
